Caroline Mirkes is a composer, cellist, pianist and the creator of Performers.lu. She was a Fulbright Grantee at New York University, where she made her master’s degree in cello performance in May 2018. Already during her studies in Brussels, Barcelona and NYC, she organised art events, like the ART UNDER THE ROOF lounges in Brussels, the CONTEMPORARY ART SALON in Brooklyn or The CONCERT IN THE DARK at the Stued Theater. In 2020, Caroline’s first festival CELLO SEASON in cooperation with the Valentiny Foundation came to life. As a composer, Caroline published her CD (2015) called “Dis, est-ce que ça repousse les ailes?” with piano works accompanying the same-titled book by Brigitte Jacques and an EP with compositions for the Outdoor Performing Arts Group.
Caroline is currently recording her piece CHRISTMAS RHAPSODY commissioned by the Ministry of Culture from Luxembourg for the Ensemble Vocale du Luxembourg together with a 2D animation she produced. Other works she wrote include soundtracks for short films in Austria and Germany, her CINEMATIC SUITE for the Luxembourg Studio Orchestra, OCEANO for the EME Big band and MARKET PLACE for the Performers.lu Orchestra.
As a cellist, she is into all kinds of styles, resulting in engagements with the ORCHESTER DER BAD HERSFELDER FESTSPIELE, the CELLO OCTET LUXEMBOURG, the gFLOTT BAND, the DUO MITEINANDER as well as improvised loops together with André Mergenthaler.
Besides her musical studies, Caroline has done a two-year training as an actress at the Schauspielschule Wien (see actress profile here: https://www.castforward.de/members/profile/caroline-mirkes) and trains in dance improvisation, dance acrobatics and aerial silk. Caroline also played jazz piano for several years and holds a superior diploma for classical piano from the Conservatory of Luxembourg.
